Earthdance Festival 2011 Campaign Design

One of our favorite clients here at ZDCA is the international music festival, Earthdance. Each year we work with them to envision a new design theme and create a fresh visual identity to each festival. This year Earthdance moved from deep in the woods of Mendocino County to the Solano County Fairgrounds. While the fairgrounds have plenty of trees and greenery, we chose to take the design from it’s Earthy past into a cosmic direction. Earthscapes frame a celestial sky as a mandala of lotus flowers, dragons and sacred geometry swirl around the planetary Earthdance logo. We enjoyed stretching our creative imagination and the client was thrilled with the results.

Not only did we create the promotional artwork, but we’re also creating most of the other assets to the festival such as the program guide, apparel, the new site map illustration, advertisements, banners and the skin for their new website at www.earthdancelive.com . It’s a full marketing package that we truly enjoy the chance to create.

Earthdance 2010 Graphics

We have a special place in our heart for the Earthdance Festival. Each year we are given a general theme and allowed to run with it. This is our 9th year doing graphics for this event devoted to world peace, and yet it’s the first one that we incorporated a dove image. The 2010 campaign is an excellent example of the merging of “visionary” art style design with commercial promotional materials. We like to engage the viewing artist on a level beyond that of a basic message. An event like Earthdance has a very special energy about it and the voice of the event is carried through with the graphics. If you’ve never been to Earthdance, we highly recommend it.

The 2010 Harmony Festival Campaign

Th 2010 Harmony Festival campaign was been a wild and wonderful ride as usual. We created a campaign that was the most positively received in their 32 year history, resulting in higher attendance than ever before. The evolution of this festival’s graphical presence is has been a long journey of re-identifying one of the oldest music festivals in Northern California as a fresh, relevant, hip event.

In celebration of the 10-Year Anniversary of the Techno-Tribal Dance, we’re giving away 2,000 of these commemorative posters to our audience. Many of them will be signed by Andrew Jones who created the original illustration. These will be 13″x18″ high-quality 14pt cardstock semi-gloss posters. I hope people enjoy them as we want our audience to feel special at this event.

The Techno-Tribal Community Dance 10 Year Anniversary!

Aaaah my absolute favorite projects every year. This is the 10-year anniversary of the Techno-Tribal Dance and I decided to collaborate with my friend Andrew Jones on this year’s poster. He’s an absolutely brilliant artist and it was an honor to work with him on this project. He illustrated my vision beyond my wildest imagination. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Andrew.

Not only do I have the honor of being the designer of the graphics, but I am also the lead producer of the Mystic Beat Lounge which produces the event with the generous support of the Harmony Festival. I feel blessed to play a role in the production of this amazing show. I’m so thankful to everyone who works on our team to produce this event as well as the thousands of wonderful attendees that come every year. What a magical night. As the world of media rich Social Networks grows, niche networks seem to be popping up. Some music festivals have been creating their own social networks such as High Sierra Music Festival, Bonnaroo, and one of my all time favorite festivals, Earthdance. These differ from the old fashioned form of online forums such as Burning Man’s E-Playa because they allow users to create their own identities, profiles, photos, videos and become “friends” with other users of the network. They are mini Facebooks or MySpace sites for interest-specific groups.

The Earthdance Festival movement is truly the Social Network Festival of all festivals. Their system of creating globally connected synchronized festivals, concerts and parties all over the planet has taken the concept of social networking out of cyberspace and in to real life. It’s brilliant. The live networking between people at the festival takes a pause at 4pm (PST) and everyone prays for world peace at the exact same time across the globe. The same soundtrack (The Prayer For Peace) is played at every event and for one moment, the live planetary network of intention-based community becomes brilliantly clear to everyone involved. The interconnectedness between events is felt by everyone and the resulting feeling of one-ness is profound.
