Earthdance Festival 2011 Campaign Design

One of our favorite clients here at ZDCA is the international music festival, Earthdance. Each year we work with them to envision a new design theme and create a fresh visual identity to each festival. This year Earthdance moved from deep in the woods of Mendocino County to the Solano County Fairgrounds. While the fairgrounds have plenty of trees and greenery, we chose to take the design from it’s Earthy past into a cosmic direction. Earthscapes frame a celestial sky as a mandala of lotus flowers, dragons and sacred geometry swirl around the planetary Earthdance logo. We enjoyed stretching our creative imagination and the client was thrilled with the results.

Not only did we create the promotional artwork, but we’re also creating most of the other assets to the festival such as the program guide, apparel, the new site map illustration, advertisements, banners and the skin for their new website at www.earthdancelive.com . It’s a full marketing package that we truly enjoy the chance to create.

Emerald Cup Poster

The Emerald Cup is a benefit event in the northern hills of Mendocino County where they celebrate herbal living. Northern California definitely has it’s own idea of what it means to “go green.” This was a fun project to design as I was able to integrate ganja imagery into a stoic, competitive, championship trophy design. It’s not often you’re asked to surround your designs with pot leaves and I enjoyed the opportunity.

Sea Of Dreams graphics…

I recently completed this year’s campaign design for Sea Of Dreams – an amazing New Year’s Eve event that happens every year in San Francisco. I did their graphics from 2003-2005 and they decided to have me back this year for their 10-year anniversary. Check out seaofdreamsnye.com for more information about the event. Once again I had the honor of working with one of my favorite artists on this design, Andrew Gonzalez. Be sure to check out his website at sublimatrix.com . I can’t wait to see these in print and all over the Bay Area!

Sea of Dreams Teaser Poster

I was happy to discover that the producers of Sea of Dreams sat down and considered a number of various designers in the music industry for this year’s campaign and they chose me! I haven’t designed the S.O.D. poster since 2005 and I’m excited to be a part of this project once again. Here’s the teaser poster that I created last night.

Also, here’s another Art Nouveau version I created that they didn’t end up going with – but I did like anyway.

This is the final version that they chose. It's a glimpse of what's to come for the full campaign.

Although I love the Art Nouveau look, they didn't feel it fit the event. Ah well... someday I'll get to do a Nouveau design!

Earthways At Ocean Song

I recently completed a poster & flyer for Ocean Song. Ocean Song is a beautiful piece of cooperative land in Western Sonoma County where they host events, workshops and other great stuff. Last summer I went there with a group of 50 friends to do their ropes course. What a thrill!

From the client: Hi Zack, The poster and flyer are amazing and I am so happy with them. I agree that these will draw an enthusiastic crowd, and they really have the feel of the event. Thanks for all of your thorough work on this and for being willing to do the revisions. I appreciate your artistic/graphic design skills- I have worked as a professional textile and surface designer and know what it takes for the chemistry of the design elements to work together. The Techno-Tribal Community Dance 10 Year Anniversary!

The 2009 Techno-Tribal Dance poster.

Aaaah my absolute favorite projects every year. This is the 10-year anniversary of the Techno-Tribal Dance and I decided to collaborate with my friend Andrew Jones on this year’s poster. He’s an absolutely brilliant artist and it was an honor to work with him on this project. He illustrated my vision beyond my wildest imagination. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Andrew.

Not only do I have the honor of being the designer of the graphics, but I am also the lead producer of the Mystic Beat Lounge which produces the event with the generous support of the Harmony Festival. I feel blessed to play a role in the production of this amazing show. I’m so thankful to everyone who works on our team to produce this event as well as the thousands of wonderful attendees that come every year. What a magical night.
