Earthdance Festival 2011 Campaign Design
One of our favorite clients here at ZDCA is the international music festival, Earthdance. Each year we work with them to envision a new design theme and create a fresh visual identity to each festival. This year Earthdance moved from deep in the woods of Mendocino County to the Solano County Fairgrounds. While the fairgrounds have plenty of trees and greenery, we chose to take the design from it’s Earthy past into a cosmic direction. We have a special place in our heart for the Earthdance Festival. Each year we are given a general theme and allowed to run with it. This is our 9th year doing graphics for this event devoted to world peace, and yet it’s the first one that we incorporated a dove image. The 2010 campaign is an excellent example of the merging of “visionary” art style design with commercial promotional materials. As the world of media rich Social Networks grows, niche networks seem to be popping up. Some music festivals have been creating their own social networks such as High Sierra Music Festival, Bonnaroo, and one of my all time favorite festivals, Earthdance. These differ from the old fashioned form of online forums such as Burning Man’s E-Playa because they allow users to create their own identities, profiles, photos, videos and become “friends” with other users of the network.
