Mosaic Art Now Magazine

Mosaic Art Now magazine is a well-known publication focused on the art and craft of mosaic work and the fascinating artists who work in the unusual medium. The magazine directors came to ZDCA with a tall order: layout an entire magazine on a tight deadline and budget in a fresh style while maintaining the visual language of past issues for the existing audience. ZDCA delivered that and more by finishing the project early and within budget while surpassing the design expectations of the magazine directors. Additionally, Mosaic Art Now required...

Earthdance Festival 2011 Campaign Design

One of our favorite clients here at ZDCA is the international music festival, Earthdance. Each year we work with them to envision a new design theme and create a fresh visual identity to each festival. This year Earthdance moved from deep in the woods of Mendocino County to the Solano County Fairgrounds. While the fairgrounds have plenty of trees and greenery, we chose to take the design from it’s Earthy past into a cosmic direction. Earthscapes frame a celestial sky as a mandala of lotus flowers, dragons and sacred geometry swirl around...

WordPress and Security

We love WordPress — unabashedly! We design and develop in this ever-evolving and maturing application on a regular basis.  It has come SO far over the past decade and, in the remarkable vein of GPL and open-source application development everywhere, there is an enormous community of users, developers and advocates out there that provide encouragement and support. What’s the best part about WordPress?  Its accessibility.  Hands down.  It’s user friendly and simple where it should be and with the release of the 3.x...

Flush DNS: Mac OSX Tip

Ever been working on a test site for a while and then went to change the DNS values only to find that your mac is holding onto the placeholder or test environment’s numbers?  Well, here’s the solution:  To flush your dns cache on your local machine, open Terminal and paste this command: dscacheutil -flushcache and then hit enter. If you’re unlucky enough to be on a PC, open your command prompt (search for cmd and it’ll show up) and paste: ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter. Enjoy!

The Power of Content

The Power of Content

We cannot say enough about the power of content to push a site up the coveted Google page ladder.  Organic search results are where it’s at for conversion rates (though of course Page Rank plays a very important role), and the more we work with SEO in and out of a commercial or e-commerce environment, the more we advocate for content, content, content! What we suggest to improve your organic search results is to create new content that the search engines can use on a regular basis on your website as well as out on the web-at-large....

GeoPlanter Graphics & Illustrations

ZDCA worked extensively with GeoPlanter company to create striking illustrated marketing materials for their GeoPot, GeoPlanter and . Designs have included logo re-branding, product illustrations, billboards, vehicle wraps and other custom assets. We found the digital illustration portion of this project to be particularly exciting as the process of creating vector illustrations of a product that mostly consisted of black fabric challenging and rewarding. Take a look at some of these materials we’ve created for their various products;...
